Flags of the World - Spain Blog Post

¡Hola! I am StJohn Wright from Notarial Services (Yorkshire & Derbyshire) Limited, practicing as StJohn Wright Notary Public. Welcome to the third blog post about ‘Flags of the World’: this week the blog post is about Spain.

The red of the Spanish flag, which you can see to the right, represents strength and valour, the yellow symbolises generosity and the coat of arms is from the original Spanish kingdoms.

Did you know that the oldest city in the western world is thought to be in Spain? The city was called Gadir (which is now known as Cádiz), and was founded by the Phoenicians in 1100 BCE, who also settled in Ibiza, which is one of the Balearic Islands. There is an Egyptian temple in Madrid, Spain, near the Plaza de España: it is called the ‘Temple of Debod’, which began 200 BCE. It was donated by the Egyptian government in 1968, to save it from disappearing under the Aswan Dam. If we skip forward about 1500 years in time… In 1492, the Islamic period (starting at the arrival of Arabian people in 711 CE) ended with the conquest of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs and the discovery of the Americas, when present-day Spain began to take shape.

72% of the population of Spain speak Spanish; Spain has 4 co-official languages (Catalan, Basque, Galician, and Aranese). After Mandarin, Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world. Spain has the 3rd largest Spanish-speaking population after Mexico and the USA. If you are originally from Spain and do not have a passport, you may need a Notary (like me) to obtain consent for a passport.

Spain was the first country where wind energy was the first source of electricity for an entire year. In 2013, the wind turbines generated 54,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity, providing light and heat to Spanish homes. This is a significant amount of power to be produced solely from renewable energy and is a positive step forward in terms of reducing our fossil fuel usage to zero. Do you need a Power of Attorney to appoint one/more people to help make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf? If so, look no further than StJohn Wright Notary Public, who produces quality services with discretion and integrity.

Spain has the second highest average life expectancy in the world of 82.4 years. The UN predicts that by 2050, 40% of Spain’s population will be over 60. If your parents are over 60 and you have children yourself, you may want to speak to a Notary (such as myself), who will be able to sign a document of consent for your child to travel abroad with your parents.

The best-known cuisine of Spain throughout the world must be its Paella, which was first created in Valencia. The ingredients for the dish vary depending on what type of Paella it is. However, ingredients for one could include garlic, onion, red bell pepper, squid, jumbo shrimp, mussels, olive oil, tomato sauce, sweet smoked Spanish paprika, fish broth, saffron threads/powder, uncooked round rice, and lemon.

1 in 4 British couples decide to have their wedding abroad. The top 6 destinations for marrying abroad are: Italy, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, and France. If you wish to get married abroad in any one of these countries (or somewhere else in the world), you need to contact your local Notary (StJohn Wright Notary Public), immediately!

To conclude, I am a Notary, who has been practicing for 16 years, and I would urge you to get into contact with me if you require any of the services that I have mentioned in this blog post. Please see my website (Notary in Sheffield | England | StJohn Wright Notary Public) to find out more about me and what I can do to help you. Also, do not hesitate to call me on 07863252272.

Thank you for reading this third Blog Post on the ‘Flags of the World’. Look out for the next one about  Brazil!

¡Hasta luego y adios!
