Flags of the World - Romania Blog Post

Bună ziua! I am StJohn Wright from Notarial Services (Yorkshire & Derbyshire) Limited, practicing as StJohn Wright Notary Public. Welcome to the sixth blog post about ‘Flags of the World’: this week the blog post is about Romania.

I believe that the flag you can see above, clearly summarises the country’s extensive history. The colour blue represents liberty, the yellow colour shows justice, and the red conveys the fraternity of the nation.

Romania is a South-Eastern European nation who are a member of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Romanian language is surprisingly over 1,700 years old! If there is a language barrier, I try my best to ensure that it doesn’t become a barrier for completing my Notary work for you. If you feel that this is you, or someone you know, please do not hesitate to contact me via one of the methods at the bottom of this blog post.

In ancient times, the Dacian people inhabited the land that is modern-day Romania. Under Burebista, the Dacian kingdom became extremely powerful. However, they couldn’t escape the Roman Empire because the Romans conquered Dacia at the end of the wars in 101 AD and 106 AD, this was also when they colonised part of modern-day Romania. During the period of Roman leadership in the country, Latin became the main language used by the locals. In 1453, the Ottoman Empire (which founded in 1299) expanded and threatened to conquer everywhere in its path to central Europe, which included Romania. Princes who rebelled against the Ottomans were outcasted or executed. One unlucky person was Prince Constantin Brancoveanu, who was beheaded in 1714 alongside his four sons. After the 1848 revolution, the goal for the Romanians was to become independent from the Ottoman Empire and unify the Romanian people. Romania was a constitutional monarchy until the end of 1947, after it had participated in both World Wars. Life wasn’t easy in Romania, politically, after 1989 due to the presence of former communist leaders in the new democratic structures.

Thankfully, no individual has had to witness all these events, otherwise that would be odd wouldn’t it! Some documents that I notarise require someone in addition to a Notary to witness you sign the legal document, to verify that it is you. Please contact me to talk through your options on this and discuss whether you need this service for your next piece of Notary work.

Did you know that the Parliament Palace in Bucharest (the capital of Romania) is the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon? This building is 84m high and is known to be the heaviest building in the world, weighing about 4 million tonnes!

The traditional dish of Romania is ‘Sarmale’: it is the most consumed dish in Romania and contains meat- or vegetable-stuffed cabbage which is rolled in a cabbage wrap; it’s often combined with corn flour bread and a yogurt sauce. It is typical of the area of the world Romania is located in because it looks and tastes like Greek or Turkish cuisine. This particular dish is served during important celebrations: this could be at your wedding if you are having it abroad in Romania. You must have notarised documents to get married abroad and this can be done through a Notary like me, so please do contact me on my phone number (which is written below).

To conclude, I am a Notary, who has been practicing for 16 years, and I would urge you to get into contact with me if you require any of the services that I have mentioned in this blog post. Please see my website (Notary in Sheffield | England | StJohn Wright Notary Public) to find out more about me and what I can do to help you. Also, do not hesitate to call me on 07863252272.
