Flags of the World - Germany Blog Post

Hallo! I am StJohn Wright from Notarial Services (Yorkshire & Derbyshire) Limited, practicing as StJohn Wright Notary Public. Welcome to the sixteenth blog post about ‘Flags of the World’: this week the blog post is about Germany.

The modern national flag of Germany has three colours which have very powerful meanings. Black symbolises the dignity and the determination of the German people. Red symbolises bravery, strength and valour. And gold represents wealth, power and prestige.

In recent history, in January 2011, provisional figures showed that the economy had grown by 3.6% in 2010, Germany’s fastest pace since reunification in 1990. In May 2011, there was a further U-turn on nuclear power following the crisis at Japan’s Fukushima power plant, and the German government said all nuclear power plants were to be phased out by 2022. The last three remaining nuclear power plants in Germany were taken offline on 15th April 2023. In May 2013, figures showed that in 2012 Germany experienced its biggest surge in immigration in almost 20 years, with 400,000 “permanent migrants” arriving (people who have the right to stay for more than a year). In April 2014, Germany adopted a minimum wage for the first time and set it at 8.50 euros/hour. In July 2016, attacks on migrant Islamic State sympathisers in Wuerzburg and Ansbach leave 17 people injured. And in this summer (2024), Germany hosted UEFA Euro 2024. At the time of writing, I know that England and Spain are both through to the final on Sunday 14th July 2024, and I just hope that “it’s coming home”. Come on England! However, Germany were knocked out of Euro 2024 after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Spain in extra time of the quarter-finals. Mikel Merino scored the decisive goal in the 119th minute in Stuttgart.

What a defeat to witness! For your documents, do you require a Notary and a witness? A witness is a neutral third party who watched the parties sign their legal document. They’re brought in to confirm the identities of all the signers and that no forgery occurred. The witness must be at least 18 years old and of sound mind when witnessing a document’s execution. They cannot be able to benefit from the contract or be related to one of the signers.

The largest train station in Europe is in Berlin, and Berlin is 9 times bigger than Paris in France. German is the 3rd most widely taught language in the world. The German language has 35 dialects, a few of which are: High German, Bavarian, Middle German, Low German, Frisian and Alemannic. More than a third of Germany is covered in forests and woodlands, with over 90 billion trees, mostly Pine, Beech and Oak trees. Germany wants to be greenhouse gas neutral by 2045, so is a country pioneering for environmental change.

The national animal of Germany is the Eagle. It is a symbol of the Sun, the life-force and the highest deity, it was already revered in the highly developed civilisations of the Orient and by the Greeks and Germanic people. The national dish of Germany is Sauerbraten, which is a traditional German roast of heavily marinated meat served with gravy. The national non-alcoholic drink of Germany is Apfelschorle: this consists of apple juice and sparkling water. To allow your child to experience all of these elements of Germany, contact me (as a Notary) to discuss your options and the process of obtaining Consent for a Child to Travel. Please use my details below.

To conclude, I am a Notary, who has been practicing for 16 years, and I would urge you to get into contact with me if you require any of the services that I have mentioned in this blog post. Please see my website (Notary in Sheffield | England | StJohn Wright Notary Public) to find out more about me and what I can do to help you. Also, do not hesitate to call me on 07863252272.

Thank you for reading this sixteenth blog post on the ‘Flags of the World’. Look out for the next one about the Italy! Verabschiedung!
